Abstract

Maternity in adolescence will remain a complexity, its insecurity, educational level, emotional immaturity due to not achieving autonomy, lack of family support, knowledge and attitudes deficient in the care of the newborn, expose your child to a risk for subsistence, increasing morbidity and mortality rates. GENERAL OBJECTIVE: Identify the knowledge and attitudes of adolescent mothers in the care of the newborn, Bachillerato College ¨Ciudad de Cuenca¨. Cuenca 2018. METHODS: It was carried out in a cross-sectional descriptive study with a qualitative approach, A finite universe of 9 adolescent mothers, as an instrument a semi-structured test was applied. The data collected were transcribed and analyzed in the ATLAS.ti program. The presentation of data was done in tables with its descriptive analysis. RESULTS: Adolescent mothers interviewed not know the procedure or the duration of the bath; they do not know how the umbilical cord is cleaned, they do not know how to clean the facial cavities, they do not know how to clean the genitals of the newborn, they express that they do not know when the child loses heat and they mention not knowing which are the signs of alarm and what to do if they arise, with respect to the attitude, it was evidenced that it was positive and favorable for the growth and development for the child. CONCLUSIONS: Adolescent mothers are unaware of newborn care, predominating areas: bathing, umbilical cord care, thermoregulation, facial cavities, genital signs of alarm. Contrary to the attitudes of the adolescent mother who are adequate in the care of the newborn.
