Naturación urbana en sector céntrico de Cuenca mediante implementación de módulos prefabricados de jardinería vertical

Abstract

Nowadays, the disorganized growth of cities has caused a shortage of green areas in them and the impossibility of generating new green spaces in consolidated urban zones intensifies the problem, this derives in environmental issues that affect directly the life quality of its population.

Cuenca is not an exception considering that its urban green index is 1.82 square meters by person according to the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC in Spanish), compared to the nine square meters of green area that the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends to ease the negative effects of pollution produced by man in his daily life.

In the face of this situation, the main objective of the present document is to implant new green areas in the city through the greening cites concept, specifically in the Historic Downtown of Cuenca, due to the bigger lack of green spaces in it.

Therefore, a vertical gardening prefabricated panel destined to surroundings was developed. Added to this, several context analyses were done to identify the places where the application of these panels would generate a bigger benefit for the urban green index of the zone.

These panels increased the urban green index from 0.65m2/habitant to 0.95m2/habitant. Hence, it is concluded that, although the deficit has diminished, the recommended urban green index was not achieved
