Abstract: | Background. Family planning is considered as the ability of a family to decide on its procreation, this concept also includes the ancestral knowledge, passed on from generation to generation by the people of wisdom. Nowadays, the public health institutions of Ecuador recognize the habits, beliefs and ancestral customs taken into account in the intercultural and multiethnic.
General purpose. Describe the Intercultural Practices of the People of Wisdom regarding Family Planning.
Methodology. It is a qualitative phenomenological study, we worked with 10 people of wisdom from the Taday parish, recognized by the community and by the Ministry of Public Health of Ecuador, women who were informed about the research and signed the informed consent. Semistructured interviews were recorded, transcribed as primary documents and passed through an analysis process using the Atlas ti software.
Results All the people of wisdom who participated in the research were adult women and older adults with extensive experience in their communities, whose educational levels were low.
The knowledge and practices that apply in their community were transmitted from generation to generation, mainly by the female line. The credibility of the people of wisdom was based on the favorable results they obtained with the users. Among the most common practices for family planning was the preparation of beverages with the use of medicinal plants both to avoid conception and to favor it.
Conclusions The practices were not completely homogenous in the participants, common uses of plants such as huarmipoleo and attack to favor conception are evident; while the lemon and avocado peel to avoid conception |
Description: | Antecedentes. La planificación familiar es considerada como la capacidad de una familia de decidir sobre su procreación, este concepto incluye también el conocimiento ancestral, transmitido de generación en generación por medio de las personas de sabiduría.
Objetivo General. Describir las Prácticas Interculturales de las Personas de Sabiduría respecto a Planificación Familiar.
Metodología. Es un estudio cualitativo fenomenológico, se trabajó con 10 personas de sabiduría de la parroquia Taday, reconocidas por la comunidad y por el Ministerio de Salud Pública del Ecuador, mujeres que fueron informadas sobre la investigación y firmaron el consentimiento informado. Se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas que fueron grabadas, transcritas como documentos primarios y que pasaron por un proceso de análisis mediante el software Atlas ti.
Resultados. Todas las personas de sabiduría que participaron en la investigación fueron mujeres adultas y adultas mayores con amplia experiencia en sus comunidades, cuyos niveles de instrucción fueron bajos.
Los saberes y prácticas que aplican en su comunidad fueron transmitidos de generación en generación, principalmente por la línea femenina. La credibilidad de las personas de sabiduría se basó en los resultados favorables que obtenían con los usuarios. Entre las prácticas más comunes para la planificación familiar se destacó la preparación de bebidas con el uso de plantas medicinales tanto para evitar la concepción.
Conclusiones. Las prácticas no fueron del todo homogéneas en las participantes, se evidencia usos comunes de plantas como el huarmipoleo y ataco para favorecer la concepción; en tanto que el limón y pepa de aguacate para evitar la concepción |
