| Abstract: | To determine the frequency of sub-diagnosis of anemia in children from 6-24 months of age hospitalized in the pediatric department of the Hospital Homero Castanier Crespo, during 2016.
METHODOLOGY
A descriptive study was carried out. The sample consisted of 234 children, which was obtained with 95% confidence, 4% error of inference and 20% prevalence of diagnosis of anemia. The data was obtained from the clinical histories and analyzed using the IBM-SPSS Version 15 program.
RESULTS
The minimum age in the study was 6 months, the maximum 24 and the median of 15. 57.3% belongs to the male sex; the type of frequent delivery was vaginal type 76.9%. Regarding maternal residence, the urban area was predominant with 58.5%.
The study reported 20.08% children with anemia, predominantly in males, the frequency of underdiagnosis was 19.7%. The minimum hemoglobin value was 6.3 maximum value 23.1 and the median 12.2 g / L, mild anemia was more frequent with 66.0%; according to the erythrocyte index values, microcytic hypochromic anemia prevailed with 70.2%.
CONCLUSIONS
The frequency of anemia in the study is similar to the report of the Encuesta Nacional de Salud y Nutrición -ENSANUT, the frequency of underdiagnoses was 19.7% with a 95% confidence interval varying between 14.5 and 24.7%. |
| Description: | OBJETIVO
Determinar la frecuencia de sub-diagnóstico de anemia en niños de 6-24 meses de edad hospitalizados en el departamento de pediatría del Hospital Homero Castanier Crespo, durante el 2016.
METODOLOGÍA
Se efectuó un estudio descriptivo. La muestra estuvo conformada por 234 niños, la misma que se obtuvo con el 95% de índice de confianza, 4% error de inferencia y 20% prevalencia de diagnóstico de anemia. Los datos se obtuvieron de las historias clínicas y se analizaron mediante el programa IBM-SPSS Versión 15.
RESULTADOS
La edad mínima en el estudio fue de 6 meses, la máxima 24 y la mediana de 15. El 57,3% perteneció al sexo masculino; el tipo de parto frecuente fue de tipo vaginal 76,9%. Respecto a la residencia materna, el área urbana fue predominante con 58,5%.
El estudio reportó 20,08% de niños con anemia, predominando el sexo masculino, la frecuencia de sub-diagnóstico fue de 19,7%. El valor mínimo de hemoglobina fue de 6,3, el valor máximo 23,1 y la mediana 12,2 g/L. La anemia leve fue más frecuente con 66,0%; según los valores de índices eritrocitarios la anemia microcítica hipocrómica predominó con 70,2%.
CONCLUSIONES
La frecuencia de anemia en el estudio es similar con el reporte de la Encuesta Nacional de Salud y Nutrición-ENSANUT; la frecuencia de sub-diagnóstico fue del 19,7% con un intervalo de confianza al 95% variando entre 14,5 y 24,7%. |
