Niveles de ansiedad y depresión en mujeres diagnosticadas de cáncer de mama que asisten a la Unidad de Oncología del Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga, 2018

Abstract

Background: according to the World Health Organization, breast cancer is the most frequent cancer in women worldwide with a lethality of 22.5% (1,2), this reality is replicated in Ecuador where alterations are added of mood like anxiety and depression. Objective: To determine the levels of anxiety and depression in women diagnosed with breast cancer at the Oncology Unit of the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital. Methodology: quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study in 88 patients with breast cancer receiving care in the Oncology Unit of the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital in the city of Cuenca during the period February-May 2018. A form and scale were used of Hamilton of depression and anxiety; the data were analyzed through the SPSS 15 program obtaining frequencies, percentages and to establish the statistical significance the p value will be used. Results: the average age was 48.55 years. The most frequent cancer was breast infiltrating ductal carcinoma with 50% of the total and the mean diagnosis time was 1.6 years. 100% presented anxiety and the levels of it were the following: mild 2.3% moderate 18.2% and severe 79.5% while the prevalence of depression was 48.9% distributed as follows: mild 15.9%; moderate 6.8%; severe 4.5% and very severe 21.6%. Conclusions: the emotional impact of patients with breast cancer is high and of great intensity which involves taking preventive actions.
