Eficacia de las escalas de balthazar y mortele como predictores de severidad en la pancreatitis aguda

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Pancreatitis is an acute inflammatory pathology, with variable involvement of adjacent organs, high incidence of complications and high mortality rates. The tomographic scales allow an early orientation towards the management and prognosis of patients. OBJECTIVE: To determine the efficacy of the Balthazar and Mortele scales as predictors of severity in acute pancreatitis. José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital. 2016-2017. MATERIALS AND METHODS: study of validation of diagnostic tests. We analyzed 171 patients diagnosed with acute pancreatitis classified according to the Atlanta scale. Of which 86 were severe and moderate cases and 85 mild cases, who underwent a simple and contrasted computed tomography between 48 and 72 hours after admission, the Balthazar and Mortele scale was calculated by means of the findings found. The sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value of the imaging scales were determined. RESULTS: the mean age of the patients with acute pancreatitis was 55.52 (±18.98), the female sex was the predominant group with 60.2 %, when assessing the efficacy of the tomographic tests to predict the severity of acute pancreatitis a sensitivity of 86.36 % and a specificity of 96.47 % was obtained for the Mortele scale and a sensitivity of 45.45 % and specificity of 100 % for the Balthazar scale. CONCLUSION: it was observed that the Mortele scale more effectively predicts the severity of acute pancreatitis when compared with the Balthazar scale
