Desarrollar una propuesta de diseño para incrementar la durabilidad de los hormigones asfálticos en la región utilizando el método SMA (Stone Mastic Asphalt), elaborándolos en base a materiales locales

Abstract

The SMA asphalt concretes basically consist of producing an asphalt mix with the size of coarse aggregate, high content of asphalt, filler and the presence of cellulose-based fibers, which fulfill the function of increasing the viscosity of the liquid phase avoiding the segregation of aggregates. by gravity, either during transport of the mixture or during laying and vibrated.

The materials have been selected in such a way that they have the physical-mechanical properties suitable to the international SMA regulations, replicating the SMA concretes in the most faithful way. The aggregates and the asphalt comply with the international specifications, the available mineral filler is the product of stone crushing processes and for the fibers the American agave or jute has been used, processing it until obtaining suitable sizes and quantities of fiber for the elaboration of the briquettes

Of the briquettes prepared, those that gave the best results within the 18 groups of samples were chosen. The most suitable option consists of the addition of 0.35% American agave cellulose fibers, 6.57% asphalt content and the use of granulometry with a maximum nominal size of 19 mm. Estimated production costs of the most recommended SMA mixture were analyzed and compared with the production costs of a regular mix. Finally, recommendations are defined to improve the development of SMA mixtures in the region.
