Abstract

This paper aims at developing a study concerning the theoretical framework of Legenda Op.17 by Henryk Wieniawski, by means of a stylistics analysis, to later carry out a comparative analysis of the performance of three important interpreters: David Óistraj (1908-1974) – Soviet Union; Yehudi Menuhin (1916-1999) – United Sates of America, and Anne-Sophie Mutter (1963) – Germany. The music community has a whole is significantly benefited by the reading and the employment of texts that contribute to the continual search for intellectual means to enrich the interpretation of a musical piece. Therefore, with the aim of obtaining a clear and personal outlook of Legenda Op.17, this text employs Jan LaRue’s stylistics analysis of categories as a structural method to break down and detail each contributive element (SAMeR) of the piece, and, by this means, attain discernment tools to appreciate and interpret it. After analyzing the performance of each interpreter from a stylistics standpoint developed through the categories of analysis, it is adequate to conclude that the sound and syntactic importance of the diverse elements of a musical piece varies from person to person, being the product of a definite criterion developed through a reflective study that takes place prior the performance.
