Abstract

Background: The beliefs and ancestral customs that were given some time ago by grandparents or great-grandparents, privilege women for care in pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. By using medicinal plants and natural products. Traditional practices go hand in hand with cultural aspects beliefs, religion and health of women throughout the pregnancy process until recovery.

Objective: This research determined ancestral beliefs and customs that have women on care during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. Chaucha-2014.

Methodology: This is a qualitative study, in which we worked with 3 focus groups in the Chaucha parish, the first focus group included 6 women of reproductive age who have lived their stage of pregnancy, delivery and postpartum, the second group included 3 community midwives and the third 10 mature older who were given an in-depth interview. The information processing allowed structuring narratives of ancestral beliefs and customs that have women on care during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. Results: This research helped identify the beliefs and customs that have women on care during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum; most of the population studied said that medicinal herbs as a curative and preventive medium is used during these stages.

Conclusions: This research helped us to demonstrate the level of conservation of ancestral practices during the reproductive process of women that despite advances in technology, public health, still preserved in the Chaucha Parish
