Prevalencia y factores asociados a policitemia neonatal del Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso, 2014-2015

Abstract

BACKGROUND: The polycythemia constitutes a potentially productive pathology of serious complications in the neonate that affect multiple systems, everyone being secondary to the alteration of the microcirculation for the risk of production of hyperviscosity of blood.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE: To determinate the prevalence and risk factors associated with neonatal polycythemia at Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso, 2014-2015.

METHODOLOGY: It was made a cross-sectional study in 1669 newborn babies at Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso in the period time January 2014 December 2015. For this analysis we used Microsoft Excel 2013 version and SPSS v19.0 with basic statistics, odds ratio and a 95% confidence interval.

RESULTS: The male newborn babies with polycythemia, represented the 58.8 %. Polycythemia's prevalence belonged to the 6,11%. The factors: low weight at birth, born at term small for the gestational age, the perinatal asphyxia and the preeclampsia's background showed a statistically significant relationship. The most of the studied cases (99,5%) lived in the Sierra region.

CONCLUSIONS: Polycythemia's prevalence in this group can be considered high (6.11%), and the principal factors associated are: The gestation in the height, the low weight at birth, born at term small for the gestational age, perinatal asphyxia, the masculine sex and the background of preeclampsia
