Dermatosis en pacientes pediátricos con obesidad en el servicio de endocrinología del Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso. Cuenca, febrero 2011- diciembre 2016

Abstract

Background: Obesity represents a serious public health problem due to its multiple consequences, including dermatological alterations, little studied until the present time. Objective: To determine the skin diseases in pediatric patients with obesity in the service of Endocrinology of the Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso, Cuenca Methodology: Descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study performed in pediatric patients, from the endocrinology department of Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, Cuenca-Ecuador. The universe was constituted by the Clinical Histories of the service of Endocrinology between February 2011 and December 2016. The data were collected using forms based on the information contained in each medical history of the medical operating system of that entity. The statistical program EpiInfo 7.0.9.7 was used, where the different variables were correlated, according to the proposed objectives. Results: 161 pediatric patients with a diagnosis of obesity were included, 111 male and 50 female, 0 to 18 years old, with some degree of obesity according to standard deviation (SD> 2,> 3). The division between more frequent and less frequent dermatoses was found: Acanthosis Nigricans (40.37%), Acne (2.48%), Striae (3.73%), Pityriasis Alba (2.48%), Seborrheic Dermatitis (1.86%) and Atopic Dermatitis 1.24%). Acanthosis Nigricans was the predominant pathology and less than half of the population studied did not present any type of skin diseases. Conclusions: It is possible to determine that there is a certain susceptibility that patients with obesity present different dermatological pathologies, since more than half of the patients studied present some type of dermatoses (52.17%).
