Abstract

BACKGROUND: The care of the child with and without disability represents a tension load for the mother, which can generate anxiety and is influenced by several associated factors. OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of anxiety of the mother in the care of the child with and without disability and associated factors in the initial education center Angelitos and center of integral development for the people with Down Syndrome. METODOLOGY: Transversal quantitative prevalence in caregivers of children with and without disabilities in two educational centers. To evaluate maternal anxiety, the Hamilton test was used, the family Apgar test to evaluate the family dysfunction and the other data was collected by anamnesis. With the SPSS software, the descriptive analysis was performed and after association with Chi square. The prevalence ratio was used with Confidence Intervals of 95% and p value> 0.05. RESULTS: Of the 82 children attending the centers of education, 54.9% were males with a mean age of 4.3 years. Of the caregiver mothers, 51.2% are married with a mean age of 29 years (DS 9.5) and 62.2% have a baccalaureate education level. In family characteristics, 86.6% are highly functional. Of the total 87.8% of caregivers present anxiety. There was no statistically significant relationship between the characteristics of the child, mother, family and the child's disability with the anxiety of the caregiver mother (value p> 0.05).
