Prevalencia de las Manifestaciones Clínicas de Lupus Eritematoso Sistémico desde el 2005 hasta el 2015 en el Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga, Cuenca, Ecuador

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Determine the prevalence of the 11 clinical manifestations of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus at José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital during the period of 2005-2015. MATERIALS AND METHODS: It’s a transversal descriptive study. Data was collected from the clinical charts of patients diagnosed with SLE and hospitalized at José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital. Data recollection was achieved by using a form made by the authors in an application called EpiInfo. A statistics application called Stata 11 was used for data analysis and tabulation, using charts and bar graphs. RESULTS: The mean age for the studied population was 34 years, of which 87,27% were women and 65,90% came from an urban area. The criteria with the highest prevalence in both sexes was the presence of antinuclear antibodies, with 94,09%; and the criteria with the lowest prevalence was the presence of discoid rash, with 1,82%. In women, the highest and lowest prevalence criteria were also antinuclear antibodies and discoid rash, with a prevalence of 94,79% and 2,08% respectively. In men, the most prevalent criteria was the presence of antinuclear antibodies, with 89,79%. There were no cases of discoid rash or serositis in this group. CONCLUSION: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is a mutiorganic disease that affects mainly women of fertile age, the most prevalent manifestation is the presence of antinuclear antibodies and the least prevalent is discoid rash
