Abstract

Background: medication administration is an important function that basically concerns the nursing professional, who must be trained in the calculation of doses and subsequently for administration of the drug. Errors within the medication delivery process occur continuously due to several factors, among the main ones due to an error in the dose calculation. Objective: The present investigation identified the knowledge of the calculation-administration of venous medication by students of the Nursing Career, of the University of Cuenca, in the year 2016. Methodology: This study is descriptive cross-sectional. We worked with a finite universe constituted by 649 students of the Nursing Career. The sample frame was constituted by 112 students of the fourth year, (seventh cycle). Taking as a final sample 89 students of the nursing career who expressed their desire to participate in the research and signed the informed consent. A pilot test was applied to 10 students. For the collection of information as a technique, the survey was used and as a tool a form developed by the author. The analysis of the information was done in the programs SPSS version 15 and EXCEL. Those that are presented in simple and double tables with their respective descriptive analysis. Use of results: the present research will provide information on the knowledge of the calculation for the administration of venous medication by students of the Nursing Career, University of Cuenca, in 2016.
