dc.description.abstract | The aim of this research was to determine the prevalence of glomerulonephropathies in hypertensive dogs by race, age and sex, using protein/creatinine (UP/C) levels in urine. We used 113 dogs with severe and moderate arterial hypertension (> 160 mm Hg and ≤ 160 mm Hg, respectively) of different age, race and sex. Their urine was collected by cystocentesis and protein and creatinine were evaluated, determining the relation UP/C by the formula of Cerón, (2013), categorizing the type of patient according to stage of Renal Protein (UP/C) - IRIS in normoproteic dogs (<0.5: negative) and in glomerulonephropathies (>0.5: positive). A non-parametric linear experimental design was used and the percentages of glomerulonephropathies were determined by contingency tables. Chi-square test was used to determine differences between age, race and sex categories. The percentages obtained from glomerulonephropathies according to each type of hypertension were: 36.4% and 34.0% (severe and moderate respectively); in each age, race and sex category, the prevalence of the disease was similar (P> 0.05). A relationship (Rho Spearman) was then performed between each age, race, sex, hypertension and glomerulonephropathy; Determining that there was no significant relationship (P> 0.05) between these factors; however, when hypertension and glomerulonephropathies were related, a high and significative (P< 0.05) correlation was found, it was also found a risk factor for glomerulonephropathies in severe hypertension in comparison with moderate hypertension. In conclusion, the prevalence of glomerulonephropathy in dogs with severe and moderate arterial hypertension presents a similar percentage in each category of age, race and sex; and there is a direct dependence between glomerular disease and AHT independently of the study factors | es_ES |
