Abstract

Background. The knowledge about care during pregnancy is important because it helps prevent complications during gestation

Objective: To determine the level of knowledge and practices about the care during pregnancy expectant mothers who come to the Centro de Salud Carlos Elizalde.Cuenca.2016. Methodology. It is a descriptive, quantitative cross-sectional study; We worked with a sample of 101 mothers who attended the prenatal outpatient clinic in August. The technique of data collection was the survey prepared by the authors and previously submitted to a pilot test in a population of similar characteristics for their respective validation. For the analysis of the obtained data a database was created through the program SPSS version 18, the results are presented in tables of frequency and percentage with their respective descriptive analyzes.

Results. The study showed that of the 101 pregnant mothers, 33.7% are in the ages of 20 to 25 years; 30.7% are under the age of 19, 73.0% indicate that they have gained their knowledge about pregnancy in the health center; 60.4% have a balanced diet

Conclusions. In the study population was present significantly that there is a sufficient level of knowledge and practices regarding prenatal care, danger signs, take iron and folic acid, vaccination, hygiene, childbirth, nutrient intake, prenatal card and psychoactive substances in the 101 users of the investigation
