Abstract

Objective: To determine intrauterine growth curves calculated from weight, length and head circumference in infants in the Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga of Cuenca from 1 January 2014 until 30 June 2015. Methodology: it’s a descriptive and cross-section study of newborns alive, without congenital or genetic malformations, all from unique gestations, attended in the Hospital "José Carrasco Arteaga", during the period January 2014 to June 2015. The data were obtained by indirect observation. The results were analyzed in the program Excel 2010. Results: 2165 newborns during the period established that met inclusion criteria, with slight predominance of male newborns (50.07 % vs 49.93 %). The weeks of gestation are the most commonly week 38 and 39, being more common for males at 38 weeks gestation and 39 for females. There was no significant difference (Student t test) between the weight of newborns men and women. We obtained for term newborn 3070.7 grams average weight, height 48.6 centimeters and head circumference 34.2 centimeters. Conclusions: it was possible to build nine tables and intrauterine growth curves from week 31 to 42, based on the anthropometry of the newborns. The analysis and design allowed for anthropometric tables relating gestational age with weight (grams), height (centimeters) and head circumference (centimeters).
