Comparación de dos abordajes quirúrgicos, lateral y medial para ovariohisterectomía en perras de uno a siete años de edad en la ciudad de Cuenca

Abstract

The purpose of this project was to compare the lateral and medial approaches in ovariohysterectomy, all to determine the best technique in regards to invasion, execution speed and cost. In order to do this study, 40 adult female dogs aged between 1 to 7 years old that came to a sterilization procedure to the University of Cuenca were tested. Randomly through a drawing, 20 ovariohysterectomies were performed by a medial approach and 20 by the lateral technique. After statistical calculations concluded, the results showed that for the time variable the two techniques did not show any significant difference (P> 0.05). Even though the difference was minimal, the time spent was still slightly lower in some surgeries using the lateral approach. When it came to the variables of size, bleeding and Vicryl statistically significant differences were found (P <0.05), the lateral approach proved to be less invasive (bleeding and wound size) and less expensive (Vicryl).
