Abstract

BACKGROUND: According to the CODE-2 study (Cost of Diabetes in Europe: type 2) found that in Europe only 28% of diabetic patients achieved good glycemic control. In Ecuador in 2011, 4,455 deaths were due to Diabetes Mellitus, becoming the leading cause of mortality with a rate of 7.15% (INEC). GENERAL OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of non-adherence to insulin therapy and social factors associated with it, in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2, in the outpatient endocrinology "Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital" in the city of Cuenca 2015. METHODS: A cross-sectional quantitative study, in which we worked with a sample of 225 insulin patients. To calculate the sample, we obtained dates of the Statistics Department Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital. We worked with the incidence rate of the ALAD insulin requirement (55%). Our study sample was 225 patients whose were submitted to a survey to determine the non-adherence. The data were tabulated and analyzed in SPSS. USE OF RESULTS: The results of our study will serve as a source of information for students and physicians also will be a backup for future research. CONCLUSION: According to the results of our study concluded that most patients are female, with a mean age of 61 ± 13.58 years, primary education level and marital status married, the percentage of non-adherence is 65.8 % and that the main social factor associated with non-adherence to insulin therapy is forgotten
