Correlación entre el biotipo facial clínico y cefalométrico como elementos de diagnóstico en Ortodoncia

Abstract

Facial Biotype is of great importance to establish a treatment plan and it can be determined clinically and radiologically. It is classified into three kinds: Mesofacial, Dolichofacial and Brachyfacial. Once the biotype is identified, it is important to know what malocclusion is associated to, and its muscular and osseous characteristics in order to offer the correct treatment. The aim of this study was to find the correlation between clinical and cephalometric biotype measured in the same patient. The study was conducted in 50 students from the "Facultad de Odontologia de la Universidad de Cuenca" between the ages of 18 and 25 years, both male and female. Radiological images were taken by the same operator with orthopantografo CDRPan X Schick Sirona with a cephalometric system of type 80-13, year 1981, the film was exposed to 68-70 kv and 12mA with an equivalent aluminum filter at 2 to 5 mm and with normal head position. The clinical measure taken in the same position was conducted with a 1x1000 in calibrator SOYODA. Chi Cuadrado and V de Crammer tests were used to stablish the level of correlation. The results indicate that there is a moderate correlation only. Therefore it is concluded that one can not only trust the physical characteristics or the subjective analysis of the patients, but it is necessary to analyze one and each case together.
