| dc.description | Los conceptos inadecuados en higiene oral en edades tempranas siguen siendo un problema en gran parte de la población. El objetivo de este estudio fue valorar y mejorar los conceptos y prácticas en higiene oral antes y después de una intervención educativa en los alumnos de la Escuela “José María Velasco Ibarra”. En este estudio se incluyó 36 niños de 8 a 11 años. Se aplicó una encuesta a los alumnos sobre conceptos y prácticas en higiene oral y se determinó el índice de placa de Löe & Silness para evaluar su higiene bucal antes y después de una intervención educativa, la misma se fundamenta en dos charlas y una práctica educativa sobre cepillado dental. Una vez obtenida y analizada epidemiológicamente la valoración de cada pregunta y el índice de cada paciente, se observó que antes de la intervención educativa la mayoría de escolares presentaban conceptos inadecuados en higiene oral que se relacionó con un índice de placa regular. | dc.description.abstract | The inadequate concepts of oral hygiene at an early age remains a problem in much of the population. The aim of this study was to evaluate and improve the concepts and practices in oral hygiene before and after an educational intervention for students at the "José María Velasco Ibarra School. This study included 36 children from 8 to 11 years old. A survey about concepts and practices in oral hygiene was applied to these students and plaque index Löe & Silness was determined to assess the oral hygiene before and after the educational intervention, which consisted of two speeches and a practice in oral hygiene. Once the results of this intervention were obtained, they were analyzed epidemiologically by valuing each question and index of each patient. Through these results, we observed that before the educational intervention most of the children had inadequate oral hygiene concepts that related to a regular dental plaque index.
