Conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas sobre prevención de enfermedades respiratorias agudas en los cuidadores de niños/as menores de 5 años atendidos en el Subcentro de Salud Parque Iberia, 2015

Abstract

Background: According to the World Health Organization acute respiratory infections are considered one of the main complaints in children less than 5 years of age, becoming one of the most important public health problems worldwide and in our country. Objective: To identify knowledge, attitudes and practices on the prevention of acute respiratory infections in caregivers of children under 5 years seen in the Subcenter of Health, 2015 Iberia Park. Methodology: The research is quantitative, the type of descriptive transversal study universe consisted of 180 caregivers, the sample calculation obtaining a sample of 96 cases was performed. The research technique used was direct survey of caregivers of children under 5years of age, information processing was performed with the SPS 19 and Microsoft Excel 2013 statistical programs, the results are presented in tables in Word and statistical graphics for descriptive statistical analysis is performed in frequency, percentage and histograms. Results: The knowledge of IRA are acceptable especially those related to signs and symptoms, warning signs, modes of transmission, 90% of mothers are also highlighted as beneficial preventive practices: proper management of hyperthermia, control of the child healthy, full administration of vaccination, proper nutrition, surveillance of birth, remain supportive measures such as sheltering the child, caring for contact with other ill people, harmful practices are also identified in 10% of mothers decreased fluids, the amount of food and self-medication. The incidence of ARF is 1-2 times quarterly in 80.5% of cases. Conclusions: The knowledge was at an average level in 9 out of 10. There is statistical relationship between knowledge, age and education of the caregiver. The attitudes 67.71% had regular level. The 76.04% run good practice.
