| dc.description | Con el objetivo de identificar las características de los accidentes de tránsito que sufrieron los pacientes que ingresaron al HTD, en el período agosto 2005-marzo2 2006, para dar a conocer una necesidad que pasa desapercibida y constituye un verdadero problema de salud pública. Los resultados de la investigación reportan 172 pacientes ingresados; el 80,23corresponde al sexo masculino, y 19,77al sexo femenino. Siendo el grupo de adultos jóvenes (20-39 años) el de mayor porcentaje de ingresos con 53,49. El 31,40de pacientes tenían educación primaria, un 53,4habían consumido alcohol. El tipo de accidentes: 42,44choques; 23,26atropellamientos. El tipo de vehículo de mayor implicación; los autos con un 34,88, seguido de las motos con un 19,77. El tipo de lesiones: politraumatismos 30,81; traumas craneoencefálicos, las fracturas de extremidades inferiores con un 16,86y las muertes con un 9,88.
