Abstract

The study was performed at 246 women over 20 SG, with or without labor, in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics Hospital IESS Cuenca-Ecuador. January-June 2005. In order to determine the general characteristics of the study population, prevalence of caesarean section and main associated factors. It was a descriptive study of prevalence of trtansversal court. CLAP forms that were filled out by medical residents and medical interns who worked in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of the hospital under study were used. Data were entered into the SIP, past a flat base in Excel 2002 and Office XP analyzed in the EPI Infor 3.2.2. It was observed that the mean age was 29 years (SD 5.93), the married 71,95fueron and 76,83mujeres with secondary / higher education. The prevalence of cesarean was 37.8. The main associated factors were age 16 and 35 years (OR 1.27, 0.88 to 183), one or more previous caesarean sections (OR 2.78, CI 2.16 to 3.58); urinary tract infection (OR 1.36, CI 0.85 to 2.18; Pre-eclampsia (OR 1.62, CI 1 05 to 2.50), hypertension (OR 2.17, CI 1.36 to 3, 46); breech and transverse presentations (RP 2.00;. CI 1.37 to 2.90) We conclude that most women belonged to the economically active population (20-39 years), allowing them to have a job stable and covered by insurance, with a steady partner and an educational level ranging from high school and college.
