Prevalencia de rotavirus y factores de riesgo asociados en niños menores de tres años del Hospital Homero Castanier Crespo, entre mayo y julio del 2005

Abstract

The investigation determined the prevalence of rotavirus laboratory testing "Virotec-Rota" and associated risk factors in children under three years, between May and July 2005, examined Castanier Hospital in Homer City Crespo Azogues capital Canar, Ecuador, South America. The work was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Cuenca and their representatives informed consent was received verbally. The prevalence of rotavirus was 19.9, the association was determined with the risk factors by prevalence ratio parameter obtaining the following: Malnutrition RP 11,13, 95 (4.83 to 25.64) X2 40.83 p. 0.00, 2.40 overcrowding RP, 95 (1.19 to 4.83) 6.30 X2 p. 0.01, with these two variables there is a statistically significant association; Non-potable water RP 1.62; 95 (0.77 to 3.38) 1.66 X2 p. 0.19, 0.47 RP with early weaning, 95 (0.10 to 2.16) and 0.32 M p 0.10 X2 with care attendance RP 0.42, CI (0.18 to 0, 97) X2 4.21 p 0.04, with these three variables there is a statistically significant association. This study has shown that rotavirus is a health problem, as it represents a 19,9de often in children under 3 years. A possible association of rotavirus with malnutrition and overcrowding was found.
