Historia de la educación indígena intercultural bilingüe en el Azuay y Cañar desde la década de los ochenta hasta la actualidad

Abstract

This final graduation research is about the History of Intercultural Bilingual Education in the Azuay and Cañar’s provinces from the eighties to the present. It is a new research contribution, so its mean it is unpublished and allows a historical and analytical view, of a topic in the Ecuador starts as education and Literacy of indigenous people in the year 1945, began with the schools of Cayamberunned and then in the 1980s with different bilingual education programs such as Literacy quichua subprogram.

This process included of several actors’ participation, local national and international mestizo and indigenous movements, and institutions by implementing various activities and educational programs, finally was achieved a succeeded in the year 1988, institutionalized the indigenous education.

For the development of this research work, we have conducted a comprehensive study with the main actors of the historical process of indigenous education in the provinces of Azuay and Cañar, through fieldwork that involved applying numerous interviews and surveys of different actors and local educational institutions.

The Indigenous Education System took a new turn after the year 2011 when it entered into force the new Organic Law Intercultural Education, this law transformed the National Intercultural Education Direction him into a subsidiary of the Ministry of Education and replacing the Provinces Directions by the District Bilingual Intercultural Directions.
