Abstract:
General background: The majority of indigenous people maintain their ancestral ethnic identity, language, and cultural values. Traditional healing systems persist over time, maintaining healing strategies through knowledge that last for generations.
Objective: To identify the customs and traditions narrated about health among the elderly in the Quilloac community, belonging to the province of Cañar, 2014
Material and method: The research is an ethnographic, ethnohistorical and narrative. It was worked with a focus group of 15 adults over 65 years old of the Quilloac community; depth interviews and surveys were used as a procedural. A collection of questions developed by the authors on the sociocultural categories, customs and traditional practices were used as a tool. The information collected helped us build concepts and definitions that enriched our knowledge and traditions of the redeemed community.
Results: This research helped us identify the customs and traditions practiced in health older adults; most of the studied population remains to be used infusions of herbs to heal the diseases.
Conclusions: This research helped us to build an ethnographic view of the customs and traditions of the intercultural health component of Quilloac indigenous community

Resumen :
Antecedentes generales: La mayoría de los pueblos indígenas, mantienen su identidad étnica, idioma, valores culturales y ancestrales. Los sistemas curativos tradicionales persisten a través del tiempo, manteniendo estrategias curativas mediante saberes que perduran de generación en generación.
Objetivo: identificar las costumbres y tradiciones ancestrales sobre salud narrada por adultos mayores de la comunidad de Quilloac, perteneciente a la provincia de Cañar, 2014.
Material y método: es una investigación etnográfica, etnohistórica y narrativa. Se trabajó con un grupo focal de 15 adultos mayores de 65 años de la comunidad de Quilloac; como técnicas se utilizó la entrevista a profundidad y encuestas. Como instrumento utilizamos un banco de preguntas elaborado por las autoras sobre las categorías socioculturales, costumbres y prácticas ancestrales. La información recolectada nos sirvió para construir conceptos y definiciones que enriquecieron nuestros conocimientos y rescatarán las tradiciones de la comuna.
Resultados: la presente investigación nos ayudó a identificar las costumbres y tradiciones ancestrales en salud que practican los adultos mayores; la mayor parte de la población estudiada mantiene que se debe utilizar infusiones de hierbas medicinales para sanar las enfermedades.
Conclusiones: la presente investigación nos sirvió para construir una visión etnográfica de las costumbres y tradiciones ancestrales sobre el componente intercultural de salud de la comunidad indígena Quilloac.
