| Abstract: | ABSTRACT
The main objective of our thesis was to establish the relationship between food security family and their influence on the nutritional status of the children from 1-5 years of parish Nabón, Nabón canton, and province of Azuay.
Our thesis was a quantitative cross-sectional descriptive study. Data collection was carried out through a survey of home, where there were children 1 to 5 years, to more than one anthropometric examination.
Were surveyed 300 households of which consist 73.7% in rural areas and 26.3% in the urban areas.
In turn were associated with the nutritional status of relationship (p < 0.05) the following factors: the own productive land, the type of housing (material of floor and toilet service and its location) and water supply. The 51.7% of the population had low height-for-age, and 27.3% present low weight in relation to age and analyzing a whole found a 31.3% of malnutrition and 6% obesity.
The impact of the availability and the access of food were not associated with the nutritional status of children (p > 0.05). However, the prevalence of malnutrition was higher in homes that sell their products and buy food externally and like being overweight. It was noted that in the field of food safety is given the sale of products harvested in the 71.7% of households and the most consumed food category were cereal with an 86%.

| Description: | El objetivo principal de nuestra tesis fue establecer la relación existente entre seguridad alimentaria familiar y su influencia en el estado nutricional de los/as niños/as de 1-5 años de la parroquia Nabón, cantón Nabón, provincia del Azuay.
Fue un estudio descriptivo transversal cuantitativo. La recolección de datos se realizó mediante una encuesta de hogar, en donde hubo niños/as de 1 a 5 años, a más de un examen antropométrico.
Se encuestaron 300 hogares de los cuales constan el 73.7% en la zona rural y el 26.3% en la zona urbana.
A su vez, se asociaron con el estado nutricional en relación (p<0.05) los siguientes factores: el poseer tierras productivas, el tipo de vivienda (material de piso, servicio higiénico y su ubicación) y suministro de agua. El 51.7% de la población presentó baja estatura para la edad y, el 27.3% presento bajo peso en relación a la edad y analizando su conjunto se encontró un 31.3% de desnutrición y 6% obesidad.
El impacto de la disponibilidad y la acceso de los alimentos no se asoció con el estado nutricional de los niños (p>0.05). Sin embargo, la prevalencia de desnutrición fue mayor en los hogares que venden sus productos y compran externamente los alimentos y al igual que el sobrepeso. En el ámbito de seguridad alimentaria se da la venta de productos cosechados en el 71.7% de los hogares y la categoría de alimentos más consumidos fueron los cereales con un 86%.
