| Abstract: | Objective: Evaluate the effectiveness of ciprofloxacin extended-release scheme in 1 gram single dose for 5 days in the treatment of low urinary tract infection (UTI) in women over 18 years of HVCM Outpatient.
Methodology: This is a retrospective documentary analytical study was conducted at the Outpatient HVCM of female patients with UTI low diagnosed over 18 years; this population after getting informed consent was receiving ciprofloxacin treated 1 gram taken once daily for 5 days; by this study the effectiveness of the proposed scheme, evidenced by the results of culture and uro clinical improvement before and after the treatment regimen was evaluated.
Results: A sample of 110 patients who had UTIs low, with a mean age of 44.4 years, with urban areas (81.4%) was studied. Those who underwent a preculture treatment and one post-treatment with ciprofloxacin extended-release 1000 mg in single dose in five days. Where the most frequently isolated microorganism was E. coli (71.82%).
The rate of disappearance of symptoms was 97.03% in the population studied post-treatment. With the most common symptom was urinary frequency. The average disappearance of symptoms was 2 days.
Conclusion: The use of ciprofloxacin extended-release 1000 mg in single dose for 5 days is effective in the treatment of lower UTI.

| Description: | Objetivo: Evaluar la eficacia del esquema ciprofloxacina de liberación prolongada 1 gramo en toma única por 5 días en el tratamiento de infección del tracto urinario (ITU) bajo, en mujeres mayores de 18 años en Consulta Externa del HVCM.
Metodología: Se trata de un estudio documental analítico retrospectivo que se llevó a cabo en la Consulta Externa del HVCM con pacientes femeninos diagnosticadas de ITU baja mayores de 18 años; esta población tras conseguir el consentimiento informado, fue tratada recibiendo ciprofloxacina 1 gramo toma única diaria por 5 días; mediante este estudio se evaluó la eficacia de este esquema propuesto, evidenciada en los resultados del uro cultivo y en la mejoría clínica antes y después del esquema de tratamiento.
Resultados: Se estudió una muestra de 110 pacientes que presentaron ITU baja, con una edad media de 44.4 años, siendo área urbana (81.4%). A quienes se les realizó un cultivo previo al tratamiento y uno post-tratamiento con ciprofloxacina 1000 mg de liberación prolongada, en toma única por cinco días. Donde el germen aislado con más frecuencia fue E. Coli (71.82%).
El porcentaje de desaparición de síntomas fue del 97.03 % en la población estudiada post-tratamiento. Con el síntoma más frecuente fue la polaquiuria. La desaparición promedio de los síntomas fue de 2 días.
Conclusión: el uso de la ciprofloxacina de 1000 mg de liberación prolongada en toma única por 5 días, es eficaz en el tratamiento de ITU baja.
